Sam is a Visiting Fellow at the National Security Institute, and in addition to his role the Cybersecurity Coalition, Sam’s early background was in cryptography, physics and languages. He was part of an early startup that pioneered VPN and firewall development and went on to senior roles at McAfee / Network Associates, Computer Associates and RSA (the Security Division of EMC), MicroStrategy and Arbor Networks / NetScout.

Prior to joining Zscaler, Sam served as Chief ProductOfficer and Chief Security Officer at Cybereason. He is a Fellow at theNational Security Institute, on the Board of Trustees of the CybersecurityCoalition, on the Board of Directors for Sequitur Labs, an adjunct professor atWentworth Institute of Technology and Nichols College and serves as an advisorto several companies. Previously, he held leadership roles over the last 30years at RSA, EMC (where he was a Distinguished Engineer), Computer Associates,McAfee, Arbor/NetScout, Danaher and MicroStrategy. Sam also led RSA Labs atMIT, received the 2015 Pillar of CERIAS award at Purdue and has over 17 currentpatents, is a frequent contributor in the media, maintains a column on Forbes.com and was awarded the 30thAnniversary “Visionary Award” by SC Media.r
